Selçuk is the town beside the Ephesus excavations, and this is the shortest sensible way to reach the site from an international airport. The drive takes just over an hour.
What stands out in our records is how little the time moves. Every run we have measured falls within a six minute band, from 59 to 65 minutes. The route leaves İzmir quickly and then holds a steady road south, so there is little on it that can go wrong.
Ephesus has two gates. The upper gate is closer to Selçuk town, the lower gate sits at the far end of the marble street. Most visitors are dropped at the upper gate and walk down through the site. Tell us which you want and the driver goes there directly.
The House of the Virgin Mary is seven kilometres up the hill behind the site, and Şirince a similar distance in the other direction. Both are common additions to this transfer.
